Labour councillor Mr Eamon Walsh has called on the Garda Commissioner to impose a curfew on youths in west Dublin after a spate of car robberies and burnings. He recommended that the curfew last at least until the Hallowe'en weekend.
Normal policing had not been able to cope, Mr Walsh said, so the "extreme response of the curfew is now required to reestablish law and order during the hours of darkness for certain areas". He said South Dublin County Council would be holding a special meeting in early November to respond to the wrecking of over 1,500 cars in the area this year.
