Traffic at the West-Link toll bridge on the M50 in Dublin increased by 10 per cent in the second quarter of this year, according to the latest figures.

We are pleased with the increase in traffic volume at West-Link and will continue to develop the Eazy Pass service as a way of further improving throughput at the toll booths
Mr Tony McClafferty, managing director of NTR's road division

NTR plc, which operates the toll bridge, said that between April and June, the bridge processed up to 100,000 vehicles per day.  Friday July 16th was West-Link's busiest day to date, with over 100,000 vehicles passing through.  Morning peak-hour traffic has increased by 15 per cent since the introduction of the extra toll lane in each direction and up to 7,600 vehicles an hour use the bridge.

The company also said it will extend its Eazy Pass electronic toll collection system to the new North-Link toll plaza on the M1 at Drogheda from next month.

"We are pleased with the increase in traffic volume at West-Link and will continue to develop the Eazy Pass service as a way of further improving throughput at the toll booths," said Mr Tony McClafferty, managing director of NTR's road division.

"The introduction of Eazy Pass at North-Link is a significant development as this will speed throughput for drivers travelling north and south to and from Belfast, Newry and Dundalk as well as to and from Derry, Donegal and the other border counties."

NTR said 60,000 customers have joined the Eazy Pass system, accounting for 38 per cent of all vehicles using the service during peak hours.  Some 58 per cent of commercial vehicles using West-link use the service.
