The Health Service Executive has issued a warning to drug users in Wexford following four suspected heroin-related deaths in the town in less than three weeks.
The deaths have sparked fears that there may be a dangerous batch of the illegal drug being supplied in the Wexford area.
Community drugs worker Tommy Redmond, of the Community Based Drugs Initiative, said there is serious concern that there might be a "contaminated" batch of heroin circulating.
Minister of State with responsibility for the national drugs strategy Pat Carey was informed of three of the Wexford deaths when he met with drugs workers in Wexford town last Friday. A fourth man then died in the town on Monday evening in another suspected heroin-related death.
