In Galwaythe Midwinter Music Festival, celebrating the music and life of Ludwig Beethoven, got under way last night at the Town Hall Theatre, and runs until tomorrow. Tonight a concert Passion: To the Distant Beloved will comprise pieces from the song cycle of the same name. Tomorrow at 8 pm a closing concert, The Irish Connection: The Pulse of an Irishman features a selection of Beethovens Irish songs for soprano, tenor and piano.

In Wicklow this evening the winning production in this year's Bray One-Act Drama festival will be announced at the Mermaid Arts Centre.
