Serena Williams overpowered world number one Jennifer Capriati in straight sets to win the WTA and ATP Key Biscayne event in Miami today.
Eighth seed Williams outlasted Capriati 7-5, 7-6 (7/4) to claim victory in a gruelling 2hr 2min final, following on from big sister Venus, a winner here last year.
Williams and Venus have now won four of the last five editions at Crandon Park, with only Martina Hingis intruding for a 2000 trophy. Venus won it here in 1998, 1999 and 2001, beating Capriati in the final.
The result leaves Capriati atop the ranking table at number one, Williams moves up to seventh.
The winner stuck doggedly in the fight, saving seven Capriati set points in the second.
Two of those came in the ninth game, when Williams held for 4-5. In the 12th game, Capriati wasted five more chances to square the match.
Williams threw it into a tie-breaker with an overhead winner after saving five in that game.
