Brian Wilson, the musical genius behind the Beach Boys sound, will play the Electric Picnic music festival in September, it has been announced.
Wilson has overcome mental illness and years as a recluse to return to touring and playing and released a new album That Lucky Old Sunlast year.
He wrote and arranged almost all of the Beach Boys best known songs along with the band's masterpiece album Pet Sounds.
In this decade he completed the lost Beach Boys album SMiLEwhich he first performed at the Royal Albert Hall in London and then released as a solo album for which he won his first Grammy as a solo artist.
Also confirmed for this year’s festival is The Wailers, Bob Marley’s band, which includes a few of the original members. They play a mixture of old Bob Marley songs and new material generated by lead singer Elan Atias.
Other acts announced today for the festival which takes place in Stradbally, Co Laois, from September 4th to 6th at include 1980s electro-pop group A Flock of Seagulls, Irish songwriters Fionn Regan and Mundy.
Acts already confirmed for the festival include Madness, The Flaming lips, Basement Jaxx, Madness and Fleet Foxes.
