A Donegal grandmother was not too worried about the budget cuts as she picked up a cheque for €2.6 million at Lotto headquarters in Dublin yesterday.

Kathleen McLaughlin from Carrickmaquigley, Redcastle was part of a syndicate with her husband, four daughters and three sons.

The 77-year-old was not interested in holidays and wanted to keep drawing her pension every Friday, she told reporters yesterday.

She is planning to get “a wee three piece suite” with her winnings, she added.

“I wasn’t going to give them anything because I’m not too fond of Christmas but I might give them something now,” she joked yesterday.

Ms McLaughlin bought the winning €4 quickpick ticket for Saturday’s draw in Faren’s Ice Cream Company in Moville.
