THE 11,700 runners lining up for this morning’s Dublin marathon will face into cold and blustery conditions, according to Met Éireann.
It will be a wintry day with temperatures struggling to rise above six to nine degrees but Dublin is likely to escape the worst conditions facing the rest of the country.
Heavy showers have been forecast for the west and north of the country with hail and thunder also forecast.
The rain is expected to spread to the east of the country in the afternoon.
The wintry weather looks set to continue for the rest of the week.
Saturday’s severe weather conditions affected ferry sailings and some sports events and made travelling conditions difficult.
Local flooding was also reported around the country.
Fast ferry sailings by Stena Line and Irish Ferries were cancelled because of the high winds.
More than 20 residents of the Sandyford View apartment complex in Dublin’s Sandyford area were evacuated after high winds blew the roofs off two buildings on Saturday morning.
