Dennis Wise is likely to appeal against Leicester City's decision to sack him over an incident on the club's pre-season tour of Finland.

Wise was dismissed by the club yesterday for gross misconduct after the incident in which team-mate Callum Davidson suffered a fractured cheekbone.

Wise has been in contact with the Professional Footballers' Association and deputy chief executive Mick McGuire said he expected the former Wimbledon and Chelsea midfielder to appeal against the club's decision to terminate his contract.

"I think it's likely he will be appealing against the decision of the club," McGuire told BBC Radio Five Live. "I think he was probably not expecting a decision of this severity."

McGuire admitted the club had taken the ultimate sanction when a fine of two weeks wages was an alternative punishment.

"It is the club's prerogative to terminate a contract," said McGuire. "It surprises me a little bit because it is unusual for an incident between two players to result in a sanction such as this."
