Mr George Redmond decided to visit Mr James Gogarty in 1997, when newspaper articles started to appear, to assure him that he was not involved in rezoning, he told the Flood tribunal yesterday.

Mr Redmond said he called to see Mr Gogarty, who was ill, on August 12th, 1997. "I felt he was bringing me into this because he thinks I misled him in relation to rezonings, and that's the only reason I decided, possibly wrongly, but, however, I decided I'd go and talk to him", Mr Redmond said.

Mr Frank Callanan SC, for Mr Gogarty, put it to Mr Redmond: "I want to suggest your visit amounts to acknowledgement you had everything to fear from a disclosure from Mr Gogarty of your involvement with the Murphy group and with the Baileys."

Mr Redmond replied: "What about with him? Surely my involvement was with him. I mean, I had no involvement with the Baileys. I mean my involvement was with him."

Mr Callanan asked if he was accepting that that was what prompted his visit.

Mr Redmond said he had wanted to put Mr Gogarty straight that what he had said to him in relation to services eight or nine years previously was the true position.
