A woman with cerebral palsy since birth has sued the HSE over alleged negligence in the circumstances of her delivery at a Co Donegal hospital.

The court heard that Lauren Tinney (23) is confined to a wheelchair, has no power in her left hand and requires a great deal of care.

Through her mother, Eleanor Tinney, Lisowen Avenue, Buncrana, Co Donegal, she has sued the HSE for alleged negligence arising out of her birth at Letterkenny General Hospital on May 31st, 1988. The HSE denies negligence.

Ms Tinney claims that due to negligence around the time of her birth, she suffered severe foetal distress and asphyxiation resulting in cerebral palsy. It is claimed there was failure to properly monitor Ms Tinney in the womb after her mother was admitted to hospital.
