A woman in her 20s was airlifted from Carrantuohill this evening after she fell while descending the Co Kerry Mountain.
Four walkers had reached the peak and were descending when cloud came in and they took a wrong turn. One woman in her 20s fell and hurt her leg.
They raised the alarm by phone at about 4.30pm. Kerry Mountain Rescue mobilised 18 people to search for them but local walkers reached the group first.
The Coast Guard helicopter managed to winch the woman from the mountain at about 7.30pm after the cloud cleared. It brought her to Tralee General Hospital where she is being treated for injuries to her lower leg.
The other three climbers walked down accompanied down by the rescue team.
The area that the group got stranded was on steep ground about 900 metres up in an area of Ireland’s highest mountain called the back ladder.
