A woman who had three fingers amputated after getting them caught in a machine at work has been awarded €640,000 in the High Court.

Clodagh McNally (25) with an address at Trim, Co Meath told the court her hand was sucked into a machine while trying to retrieve an envelope at her workplace four years ago.

She sued envelope manufacturers Trimfold Limited of Duggan Industrial Estate, Athboy Road, Trim, Co Meath for damages as a result of the incident.

Mr Justice Richard Johnson said Ms McNally was traumatised following her injury and while many prostheses can be very good, she would be aware of her injury for the rest of her life.

In reaching his decision, the Judge said he had taken into consideration Ms McNally's belief that her chances of getting married and having children had been affected.

Outside the court her father, Patrick McNally, said the family was glad it was all over.
