A twenty-six-year-old woman from Co Clare will appear in court in Kilrush today charged in connection with an arson attack on a house in Shannon in the early hours of Sunday morning. A man and three young children had a lucky escape from the blaze.

The woman was arrested shortly after 8am yesterday and taken to Shannon garda station where she was detained for questioning

Late last night, following consultation with the Director of Public Prosecutions, gardaí formally charged the woman with two offences, one of reckless endangerment contrary to Section 13 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act 1997 and another of arson contrary to Section 2 of the Criminal Damage Act.

The charges relate to an incident in Shannon Co Clare in the early hours of Sunday morning when a fire started at a house in the town.

Two gardaí used a ladder to gain access to the house at Purcell Park after the blaze prevented them from entering through the front door.

Seven-year-old twin boys, a three-year-old girl and their father were rescued by the officers and taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation. They were released after treatment.
