A woman was bailed after appearing in court charged in connection with the deaths of the Chinese cocklers who drowned in Morecambe Bay, in the north of England, yesterday.

Ms Zhao Qing Xiao, also known as Eva, 19, of Lemon Street, Liverpool, appeared at Lancaster Magistrates' Court charged with conspiring to commit facilitation and conspiring to pervert the course of justice.

She appeared briefly on Thursday alongside two men charged with a variety of offences including manslaughter following the deaths of 21 cockle pickers on February 5th.

The three were re-arrested at around 1 p.m. on Tuesday after being bailed from police custody earlier in the year.

The two men, Mr Lin Laing Ren (27) also of Lemon Street, and Mr Lin Mu Yong (29) of Jason Street, Liverpool, were yesterday remanded in custody to reappear at Lancaster Crown Court on July 9th.

Ms Xiao spoke to confirm her name and personal details.

Police believe 23 people died in the tragedy at Hest Bank but so far only 21 bodies have been recovered.

An inquest into the deaths was opened and adjourned last week in Lancaster when the identities of the victims, who were all from the Fujian and Liaoning provinces of China, were announced.

Reporting restrictions were not lifted, and Ms Xiao was also ordered to reappear at Lancaster Crown Court on July 9th.
