A 27-year-old woman died today in a house fire in Carlow.
The dead woman's father, who escaped from the property, was treated in hospital for the effects of smoke inhalation.
The blaze broke out on Dereen Heights shortly before 3am.
It is understood the man, who was in his 60s, ran out of the smoke-logged house and attempts were made to save his daughter before their home was engulfed by flames.
Her remains were later recovered by firefighters when the blaze was brought under control.
Her body was taken to Waterford Regional Hospital where a post-mortem will be carried out.
Gardaí are investigating the exact cause of the fire, which does not appear to be suspicious.
