A woman in her mid-70s has died following a house fire in Crosshaven in Co Cork early this morning.
The woman who lived alone in a house on Middle Road in the centre of the village perished in the blaze which was spotted by neighbours at around 5am.
The emergency services were alerted members of the Cork County Fire Service from Crosshaven and Carrigaline were quickly on the scene.
They brought the blaze under control and recovered the body of the elderly woman who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Garda technical experts have begun a forensic examination of the scene to try and establish the cause of the blaze but they are not treating the fire as suspicious.
