A 39-year-old woman, who was the getaway driver in an armed bank robbery, has been jailed for two years by the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.
Sandra Brennan, of Brookview Grove, Tallaght, pleaded guilty to robbery of currency valued at €16,860.12 in US dollars, sterling and Cypriot dollars from the Allied Irish Bank at the Irish Farm Centre in Bluebell, Dublin 12, on August 19th, 2002.
The court heard Brennan had not been involved in the planning stages of the crime and had not been aware that guns were to be used in the robbery.
"Nevertheless, armed robbery is one of the most serious offences in the statute," Judge Yvonne Murphy said. She suspended the last 12 months of Brennan's sentence due to her co-operation with gardaí and her plea of guilty.
Brennan's counsel, Mr Sean Gillane BL, said she was neither a violent person nor did she condone violence. She had been addicted to heroin at the time, which perhaps contributed significantly to her decision to agree with co-operating in the robbery.
