Staff in a packed public house probably should have noticed that trouble was about to break out among a group of revellers, a judge held yesterday when he awarded £6,000 damages to a woman injured in the incident.
The Circuit Court President, Mr Justice Esmond Smyth, heard that Ms Maria Keogh (24), of The Rise, Kingswood Heights, Dublin, sustained the injury, which left a small scar on her forehead, in the Clock Tower public house, Kings wood, on New Year's Eve last year.
Ms Keogh said that she and her friend had both been struck by glasses. The group of revellers had been creating a lot of noise and argument and she had not seen any member of the staff approach them about their behaviour before the fight.
