A woman was taken to hospital today after being injured during an apparent attempt to hijack her car in broad daylight in Belfast.

The shocked woman suffered head and face injuries in the incident close to the Central Station car park in East Bridge Street, said the Police service.

A man seized by members of the public during an attempted hijacking was later being questioned by police. Detectives investigating the incident have called for witnesses to contact them.

They said they especially wanted to talk to a black man, who was central to the detention of the suspect, but who had left the scene before police arrived because he was due to start work.
