A CLARE woman has appeared in court in connection with being charged with breaching the peace by sending Mass cards for the dead to three different people.
At Killaloe District Court yesterday, Breda Moloney (53), of Ballymalone, Tuamgraney, appeared in connection with a number of charges in December 2008 and January 2009.
Ms Moloney appeared in court on foot of a bench warrant after failing to turn up in court on the last occasion in September.
Judge Joseph Mangan warned Ms Moloney.
He said: “If she doesn’t turn up the next day, she can expect to be put in jail until the matter is disposed of.”
Ms Moloney is charged with sending a Mass card for the dead to Grainne Keating on December 9th, 2008, causing her distress and thereby causing a breach of the peace.
Ms Moloney is also charged on the same date with sending a Mass card for the dead to Mary Burke and Francis Coote, causing them distress and thereby causing a breach of the peace.
Ms Moloney also faces a charge relating to the care of four goats contrary to the Protection of Animals Act 1991.
As part of this, she is charged with failing to thoroughly inspect their condition and state of health at intervals sufficient to cause unnecessary suffering of animals on December 9th, 2008.
In court yesterday, Insp John O’Sullivan said that there are quite a number of cases in relation to Ms Moloney, and a date would have to be set.
The solicitor for Ms Moloney, Chris Lynch, said that the cases “involve a considerable number of witnesses” and that therefore the case would require a specific date.
Judge Mangan adjourned the case to November 2nd to fix a date for hearing on that date.
Judge Mangan remanded Ms Moloney on her own bail to the next court date,
He said that he would not be excusing her appearance on that date.
