A woman has appeared in court in connection with the abduction of a six-year-old girl believed to have been shot dead by her father before he killed himself in a house at Clonmel, Co Tipperary, in August last year.

Ms Regina Nelligan (33) was charged at a District Court in Tallow, Co Waterford, with intentionally detaining Deirdre Crowley to remove her from the home of her mother in Cork, in December, 1999.

Deirdre was missing for 18-months before she was found with her father in Clonmel.

They were discovered dead in a rented house after gunfire was heard. Ms Nelligan, from Fermoy, Co Cork, was arrested by arrangement by police outside the courthouse today.
