The number of fatalities on the State's roads rose yesterday to 211 following the death of a woman in her 20s in Co Leitrim.
According to gardaí, at about 12.40pm, the car in which the woman was a passenger collided with another vehicle at Drumsna, Carrick-on-Shannon. Two other people were taken to Sligo General Hospital with serious injuries.
At 211, the number of fatalities on Irish roads this year is one more than for the same period last year. So far, 26 people have been killed this July.
Elsewhere, gardaí have made an appeal for witnesses to a serious traffic accident in Co Tipperary yesterday.
At around 3.40pm a truck collided with a tractor at Knocknaroe, about 3km north of Templemore. Two teenage males, who were on board the tractor were taken to Nenagh hospital.
One was later transferred to Limerick Regional Hospital where his condition was last night described as critical.
The driver of the truck was not seriously injured, said gardaí.
"We are appealing for any witnesses to the accident to contact us at Templemore Garda station on (0504) 32630," said a Garda spokesman.
Meanwhile in the North, a 33-year-old motorcyclist died in the Newtownabbey area of Belfast.
At about 7.40am yesterday the man's motorcycle collided with a Toyota car on the Doagh Road, near the junction of the Ballyduff Road and Bridge Road in Newtownabbey. The PSNI has issued an appeal for witnesses to the accident to come forward. The dead man has not been named.
On Thursday night, a 19-year-old motor-cyclist died after an accident at the Hawe Road in Bangor, Co Down.
In a separate accident near Newtownards on Thursday, an 11-year-old girl remains in a serious condition in hospital after she and her eight-year-old sister were knocked down by a car on the Whitechurch Road between Ballywalter and Millisle.
Police have issued an appeal for the driver of a car that was pulling a trailer in the area at the time of the accident to come forward. The PSNI also want to talk to any pedestrians or motorists who witnessed the accident which took place at about 6.15pm.
