An air and sea rescue off the coast of Sligo has been called off this morning following the discovery of a woman’s body.
It is believed the body is that of a woman in her twenties who went missing near Standhill, Co Sligo while walking her dog by the seaside yesterday afternoon.
A spokesman for Malin Head Coastal Rescue said the body was discovered at 9.30 a.m. on the Sligo Bay shoreline of Coney Island by a local man walking to work.
A search involving the Shannon-based marine rescue helicopter, Sligo Bay lifeboat and local gardaí was launched last night, but was called off early this morning due to bad weather and fog.
The Sligo Bay lifeboat resumed the search this morning at 7.30 a.m., and a team from the Killala Coast Guard unit was due to join the operation this morning.
All search and rescue operations in the area have now been stood down, the spokesman said.
