The Police Service of Northern Ireland has launched a search for two men today after a woman was stabbed during a robbery in Co Tyrone.

The woman, who was in her 40s, was attacked, stabbed and had her purse stolen by two men in an alleyway just off the Main Street in Donaghmore.

A PSNI spokeswoman said: "The woman, who was left very shocked and shaken by the incident, was taken to hospital for treatment."

The woman was attacked as she made her way up an alleyway towards her home after leaving a chip shop on the Main Street just after 5pm yesterday.

The PSNI said the woman was approached by a man, believed to be a non-national, who asked her for a small sum of money.

"As the woman reached for her purse she was attacked pushed to the ground and during the struggle she received a stab wound to her left hand," the PSNI spokeswoman said, adding she also received cuts to the hand and her purse was stolen.

The attacker, who was believed to have been accompanied by another unknown man, has been described as 5'2" tall, in his 20s, wearing a dark hooded top and dark shoes.

Detectives at Dungannon said they were looking to speak with anyone in the chip shop or around the Main Street of Donaghmore around 5pm.

Officers said they also wanted to speak with the driver or occupants of a transit van and a four-wheel drive vehicle parked near the alleyway off the main street around the time of the attack.
