Gardaí in Cork are investigating a number of armed raids in the city, including a car hijacking.
The black Fiat Punto parked on Kennedy Quay in the city centre at 9.30 p.m. on Monday night. The driver was alarmed when a woman got in, followed by her male partner. The woman, about 25 to 30 years of age, then threatened the driver with a knife, demanding money.
After giving them money, the driver was told to get out of the car, and the couple sped away. Gardaí said the woman was 5ft 5ins, with black hair and stockily built. She was wearing a dark tracksuit, light blue top and beige hat. Her accomplice was of medium build and a similar height, with a moustache, and is thought to have been wearing dark pants and top. Meanwhile, gardaí are also investigating two other armed raids on separate businesses in the city centre, one of which was a very aggressive armed robbery.
A young man entered a shop at St Luke's Cross with a hammer shortly before 7.30 p.m. on Monday night.
The raider, described as being of medium build with short hair and approximately 5ft 8ins in height, threatened the two members of staff before fleeing with a small amount of money.
A similar incident took place over the weekend when a man in a balaclava and long leather coat entered a hair salon on the Old Youghal Road and threatened staff and customers with a knife.
