Two women have been selected as vice-presidents of the Royal Irish Academy's council at its annual elections, and the academy's five senior officers were re-elected during a meeting at the weekend. Prof Dervilla Donnelly was elected senior vice-president of the council.
She is also chairwoman of the RIA's Science Research Committee, and a research scientist at University College Dublin. Dr Patricia Donlon, former head of the National Library, also joins the council as a vice-president.
