The National Women's Council of Ireland will call today for greater gender balance in society as it launches its pre-election manifesto.
The document calls for more women in positions of decision-making and zero tolerance of violence against women. It also demands the sharing of housework and child rearing as well as equal pay for women.
Overall, the manifesto seeks to promote equal respect and autonomy for all women, irrespective of diversity and difference.
Female politicians wearing purple for a photocall will include Liz McManus, Mary Lou McDonald, Olwyn Enright, Patricia McKenna, Mary O'Rourke, Catherine Murphy and a representative from the PDs.
The Green Party will also launch its Women's Manifesto with Green Party deputy leader Cllr Mary White and Women's Affairs spokeswoman Cllr Bronwen Maher.
Both events take place on the eve of International Women's Day which takes place tomorrow.
