A smiling Woody Allen (62) and his new wife, Soon-Yi (27), adopted daughter of his former lover Mia Farrow, toured Paris on Christmas Day, enjoying their honeymoon after a secret wedding in Venice.

"It's a great town," Allen said while posing briefly for photographers on the Place de la Concorde. "We've been here every Christmas for the past five years."

He kissed his wife on the cheek several times at the request of the paparazzi before inquiring: "Can we go to lunch now?"

The newly-weds arrived in Paris on Christmas Eve, a day after Allen married the former Soon-Yi Previn in Venice. After their wedding, the couple took a gondola ride through the city's many canals and strolled close to St Mark's Cathedral before flying to Paris aboard a private aircraft. There was no indication how long they would stay in Paris, a city Allen has visited regularly for more than 30 years. They are staying in the Ritz Hotel where Princess Diana and her friend Dodi Fayed dined before their ill-fated car ride across Paris on August 31st.

Allen and actress Farrow ended their decade-long relationship in 1992 after she found nude photographs of Soon-Yi, her Korean-born adopted daughter, in Allen's apartment. The split sparked a custody battle for Allen and Farrow's son Satchel and two children they adopted together, Moses and daughter Dylan. Farrow accused Allen of molesting Dylan, but he was cleared of all charges.

Mia Farrow's spokesman, Mr John Springer, told the New York Post: "I know it's happened. But I have no comment from Mia." The Post quoted Allen's personal manager, Ms Anna Sosenako, as saying: "It could be the best thing that could happen to him. I don't think it would look very good for him to back out on her now after all they've gone through."

Allen and Previn were married at a quiet civil ceremony on Tuesday afternoon. The Mayor of Venice, Mr Massimo Cacciari, officiated at the ceremony in the Palazzo Cavalli near the Rialto Bridge on the Grand Canal. After the ceremony attended by three other people, a city official gave the newly-weds a glass vase depicting Venice's 18th century La Fenice opera house.
