The Workers' Party has announced the indefinite postponement of its annual Northern Ireland Conference which was due to be held at Belfast's Wellington Park Hotel on Saturday, March 10th.

Northern Regional Secretary Mr Tommy Owens stated. "As many of our members are from rural areas in Northern Ireland and as there also would have been considerable numbers travelling from right across the Republic it was unanimously agreed that it was not in the interests of the vitally important agricultural sector to proceed with the Conference at this time."

Up to two hundred delegates and guests had been expected to attend the conference including party members from throughout Northern Ireland, the Republic and Britain.

A meeting of the executive of Workers' Party Youth due to be held at the same date and venue has also been cancelled. Both meetings will be reconvened at the earliest possible date.
