A group of factory workers, who claim their Christmas party flopped, are to ask a Circuit Court judge to award them £30,000 damages against the specialist company they hired to organise it.
Thirty-two employees of Smurfit Cartons Ltd, Coolock, Dublin, claim that guests, who were to have been met by fire-eating limbo dancers in the RDS in Ballsbridge in 1998, saw their Christmas knees-up deteriorate into a "disastrous non-event".
Some of the would-be revellers will claim they left the celebrations early when a carnival floor show , including fire-eating dragons, did not materialise. The group have sued Event World Ltd, Upper Fitzwilliam Street, Dublin, for £30,000 damages for breach of contract and negligence.
Judge Sean O'Donnabhβin adjourned the group's claim for assessment of damages before another judge.
He is expected to hear undefended allegations of their discontent and award compensation before December 21st.
Other allegations include dissatisfaction with the lack of a tab system of payment, insufficient staff, drink and glasses and the use of plastic cups for drinks.
