The number of people registered as missing in the ruins of the World Trade Center has fallen to 4,620, New York Mayor Mr Rudy Giuliani said today.
But Mr Giuliani told reporters while 4,620 people were recorded as missing at the family center set up for victims of the September 11 attack, a total of 5,960 people had been registered as missing persons with the police.
He said the final toll was likely to be somewhere between the two figures, but still considerably lower than the previous missing toll of 6,347.
No survivor has been found since five people were rescued the night after two hijacked airliners slammed into the twin towers 16 days ago.
Mr Giuliani said the number of bodies pulled out of the rubble of the WTC had risen to 305, and that 238 of them had been identified.
