The 2008 Young Scientist of the Year award will be announced this evening.
Minister for Education and Science Mary Hanafin will present the top award, which includes a cheque for €5,000 and a Waterford Crystal trophy. Other prizes will also be announced.
Over 1,400 projects were entered in the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition.
Entries included studies on why penguins don't freeze, whether women can multi-task better than men and the hierarchy of turtles. There is also an energy-generating bicycle that can recharge a mobile phone.

The exhibition is open today until 5.30pm today and tomorrow until 5pm.
