A 16-year-old youth has been charged with the murder of west Belfast greengrocer Harry Holland. The 65-year-old was stabbed with a screwdriver as he tried to prevent the theft of his delivery van late on Tuesday.
The boy, who cannot be named on account of his age, is due before Belfast Laganside Magistrates later today. He is charged with two counts of threats to kill, two of attempted wounding with intent and two of possessing an offensive weapon.
A 15-year-old girl has been remanded in custody also in connection with Mr Holland's death.
In a separate incident a man who allegedly drove a stolen car at a police officer near west Belfast has been arrested for attempted murder.
The suspect was among seven people detained during a crackdown on car crime and domestic burglaries. Police involved in the operation, centred on Lisburn and west Belfast, used "stinger" devices to halt the vehicles overnight.
But one driver is believed to have deliberately swerved at an officer as he deployed the stinger - a spiked device which punctures car tyres.
He was held along with a passenger. Police said they recovered a BMW car which had been stolen earlier during a burglary in Carryduff outside Belfast.
In a separate incident officers stopped a vehicle on the M1 Motorway at Blacks Road in the west of the city. Three people in the vehicle were arrested for offences including burglary, possession of an offensive weapon and motoring offences. The car had earlier been stolen during a burglary in south Belfast.
Two other men were also arrested in separate incidents for dangerous driving, drink driving offences and in one case, possession of a Class C drug. - (Additional reporting by PA)
