A voluntary social worker who was a friend to hundreds of homeless Irish on the streets of London has died in Thurles, Co Tipperary. Mr Seamus McGuire (48), was founder and director of the Youth in Need organisation, which repatriated hundreds of Irish emigrants who got into difficulties in London and had no resources to return home. Mr McGuire was a People of the Year award winner in the early 1980s and he was honoured by the former president, Mrs Mary Robinson, for his work with needy emigrants.
