A schoolboy charged in connection with the fatal stabbing of a Leaving Certificate student has been remanded on continuing bail by the Dublin Children's Court pending directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
Seán Nolan (18), Griffith Court, Fairview, Dublin, died following a row which broke out on May 26th last.
A 17-year-old male, who cannot be identified because he is a juvenile, had been charged earlier with assault causing harm to Mr Nolan, at Waterloo Road, Dublin 4. He has also been charged with producing a 10-inch bread knife and a six-inch kitchen knife during a dispute.
In June, the teenager was remanded on bail to appear again yesterday pending directions from the DPP and the possibility of further charges.
State solicitor Declan Keating told Judge Bryan Smyth yesterday that the DPP's directions were not yet available and that a further remand was being sought.
Defence solicitor Michelle Finan consented to the State's application.
Judge Smyth remanded the youth on continuing bail until a date in September pending the DPP's directions in the case.
The south Dublin youth, who was wearing a black hooded top, black jeans and runners, was accompanied to court by his parents, and remained silent during the brief proceedings yesterday morning.
His bail conditions state that he must reside at his family address, obey a curfew to be indoors at his home between the hours of 11pm and 7am, and sign on at Donnybrook Garda station.
The conditions had been changed earlier to allow his parents to bring him to locations within the jurisdiction at weekends. However, gardaí must receive advance notice in writing. In that event the curfew condition still applies and the youth must sign on at the nearest Garda station.
The deceased student's family were also at the courthouse.
