A 17-year-old youth has been remanded in custody after he was charged with the murder of a man who died following a stabbing incident in a house in Blarney in Co Cork earlier this year.
The youth, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was brought before Cork District Court this morning where he was charged with the murder of Shannon Ruby (30) at Ard Na Greine, Station Road, Blarney on September 26th.
Det Garda Maurice Leahy of Blarney Garda station gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution and told the court that the youth made no reply to the charge when it was put to him after caution.
Insp Senan Ryan told the court the DPP had directed that a charge of assault causing serious harm which had previously been laid against the accused was to be withdrawn and he applied for a remand in custody.
Insp Ryan said the State Solicitor had begun preparing the book of evidence in the case but it would take a number of weeks.
Judge Con O'Leary remanded the accused in custody to appear in court again on Friday.
