Belgrade - A Yugoslav army colonel and former military attache in Germany has requested early retirement in protest at the regime of President Slobodan Milosevic, a Belgrade daily reported yesterday. "The regime is abusing the Yugoslav army, which it uses as the last support to remain in power," Col Dragan Vuksic said in a letter addressed to the military authorities demanding his retirement, the daily Glas reported.

Meanwhile, Yugoslav military prosecutors withdrew a request that a Serb opposition leader, Mr Zoran Djindjic, be detained during an inquiry into allegations that he dodged the draft during NATO's air war against Yugoslavia.
