LOI round-up: Drogheda are on the brink of a first league title since 1983 after an Eamon Zayed brace earned a 2-0 win over title rivals Shamrock Rovers tonight.
With Cork City only managing a 1-1 draw at Bray Wanderers Drogheda are now 10 points clear with just four games remaining at the top of the League of Ireland Premier Division.
Zayed opened the scoring in the 17th minute, striking a powerful shot from the edge of the area that goalkeeper Barry Murphy could, disappointingly for the home fans, only parry into the roof of the net.
The striker doubled the advantage midway through the second half, latching on to a Guy Bates knock down and firing into the corner.
Elsewhere, League Cup winners Derry City were held to a scoreless draw at home to UCD, St Patrick's Athletic won 3-2 at Sligo Rovers and Bohemians defeated Galway 2-0 at Dalymount Park.
