An article in the edition of August 6th contained a reference to former minister John O’Donoghue and said that “it was okay for the taxpayer to fork out €120 to hire a white straw boater for him to wear at the races at Ascot”.
Mr O’Donoghue has pointed out that the headgear, which was hired and paid for out of public funds, was not hired at his request or on behalf of himself or his wife.
