Madam, – The GPO as the point of commemoration of the 1916 revolution and the current campaign to save three houses in Moore Street that were occupied by the retreating rebel army, is noteworthy. Effectively, remembering the middle and end of the story.

I tell my grandson that all good stories have a beginning, as well as a middle and an end. The vanguard of the revolution in 1916 gathered at Liberty Hall and it was from here it began. Unfortunately, the original Liberty Hall was never granted National Monument status and was demolished.

Now we continue to celebrate a mere two-thirds of the story. Perhaps by 2016 the full story can be revealed in an inclusive event that embraces the three sites, as well as all people.

A gesture reflecting 100 years of national maturity in the form of a plaque could be erected to those citizens who died that week. Twenty-eight of them were children under 16 and two, namely John Francis Foster and Christina Caffrey were infants who were just two years old. – Yours, etc,
