Madam, - Queen's University Belfast is hosting a year-long series of events to mark the 40th anniversary of 1968 - a year of change from Belfast to Beijing.
From the rise of the Civil Rights movement here in Northern Ireland, in which many Queen's students played a leading role, to the student protests in Paris, the rise of feminism and gay rights, and the global impact of the Vietnam War, 1968 proved to be a turning point in the history of Northern Ireland and many other countries around the world.
As part of the celebrations, we are organising an exhibition on Belfast and Queen's in 1968 in the Queen's Visitors' Centre. We have some materials from the University Library, but we are appealing to the community to provide additional photographs, documents, art work and other memorabilia from the late 1960s.
If you were a Queen's student in 1968, and if you have any photographs from your time at the University, or any other items that we might be able to feature in the exhibition, we would very much like to hear from you. The launch will take place on April 10th, so please respond soon.
For more information, or if you can be of assistance, please contact David Gray at Queen's University on 028 9097 3730 or email d.r.gray@qub.ac.uk. - Yours, etc,
