Sir, – In response to your figure of 402 Irish doctors emigrating to Australia this year as noted in your weekend section.
I fail to understand why there is not in place some sort of contract obligating them to work in Ireland for at least three years post-graduation.
As a lot of their five-year university fees are subsidised by us the taxpayer it feels right we should receive some reward for this and not have to rely on a regular basis advertising for doctors from abroad. At the moment it seems to be Ireland’s loss is Australia’s gain!
