A chara, – The continued use of the term “extreme left” by Lara Marlowe (“French election sees Macron lose absolute majority”, News, June 20th) to describe the Nupes (Nouvelle Union populaire écologique et sociale) bloc that won over 100 seats in Sunday’s French Parliamentary elections is infuriating. The bloc includes the Green Party and the Parti Socialiste, neither renowned for extreme positions. It is led by Jean-Luc Mélenchon and the agreed platform is for a plan to tackle ecological, social and youth issues in France. Hardly extreme ideas either.
