Sir, – Mark Mohan points to OECD data as evidence that our healthcare system is receiving adequate funds and shortcomings are due to “systems” and “management and unions” (Letters, July 25th). As with all attempts to compare such statistics, there are many problems, not least the different methods each country employs when collating expenditure. For example, Ireland includes €1 billion in payments to family carers in its healthcare expenditure figure while the Netherlands does not.
To bring some light to this subject, the latest study undertaken by the ERSI, How does Irish healthcare expenditure compare internationally, is well worth a visit. – Yours, etc,
