A chara, – I notice yet another building in Dublin city centre built as “new and modern” in the 1990s being razed to the ground now because it is “old and outdated”. The building going up in its place is sure to be “new and modern” but it too will inevitably become “old and outdated” before long. Is there any chance that this destructive cycle, which appears to be largely driven by the egos of architects, might end?
Is there an architect out there brave enough to do us all a favour by simply designing a building facade that contributes to our 19th-century and early-20th-century streetscapes?– Yours, etc,
