Sir, – I strongly object to the use of the expression “wildcat” in your article “French protesters block train station and airport as pension reform backlash grows” (World, March 23rd). President Macron refused to meet the trades unions and the government forced the law through parliament with guillotine motions and without a vote in the national assembly.
The union movement is united, and even representatives of management agree, which has not been seen for many years.
Two-thirds of the population are opposed, according to opinion polls. Mr Macron refused to meet the unions. He refuses to consider any alternative to his plan to raise the pension age. Please show some respect for the French people by not using such an emotive term to describe their legitimate actions. – Yours, etc,
