Sir, – In response to the letter “The problem of dangerous dogs” (March 27th), Edward Poster is correct in saying that the shelters are full.
However, the vast majority of the dogs in shelters are not the dangerous breeds he alludes to but the gentle greyhound and lurcher breeds, a byproduct of our Government-funded greyhound industry. It would “feel really good” to me to stop the exploitation of this gentle breed. I know exactly how to address this issue and also free up space in the shelters. Stop the €19 million handout given annually to the industry by the Government.
A simple solution, or am I just being naive? – Yours, etc,
