Sir, – In light of the extreme shortage of housing in rural Ireland, is it now time to reassess the stringent planning rules that apply to applications for one-off rural houses?
If applicants currently live in the area where the application is made, have links to the area through family, or work in the area, this should be sufficient grounds to allow applicants to be build a house.
If all local authorities in Ireland changed their development plans to allow more people build their own homes, this would make a great difference to many people. – Yours, etc,
