Sir, – Fintan O’Toole’s article in last Saturday’s paper gave credit, and rightly so, to John Hume for being a prime mover in securing the settlement, for which he was jointly awarded the Nobel Peace prize with David Trimble (“Shape of Belfast Agreement was in many respects as predictable as a rabbit in a magician’s hat”, Opinion, April 8th).
No less a person than Gerry Adams recently commented on David Trimble’s vital contribution in achieving the eventual outcome.
Somewhat strange then that David Trimble’s name was such a glaring and conspicuous omission in O’Toole’s otherwise fine article. – Yours, etc,
